The title refers specifically to the post-painterly abstraction behind him. It is the skirting-board or the heater in the Lambs Lane studio. S. posed for this and I think I was thinking about Egyptian god Geb, though there is a strand of Narcissus in there even though he does not stare at actual reflection.
